WEALDSTONE have lodged an appeal with the Middlesex FA after they hit defender James Gray with a massive suspension for violent conduct.
The versatile centre-back was sent off for a headbutt in a pre-season match at Hitchin Town, an offence which carries a maximum 112-day ban, a standard 'offer' given by the county association.
Middlesex FA chief executive, Peter Clayton, said: "To his credit, James has accepted the referee's report of what happened but has submitted a plea for leniency. He has not asked for a personal hearing and the case will be dealt with shortly as a 'non-personal' hearing.
"For the avoidance of doubt, he is currently not under suspension and will remain free to play until the case has been dealt with. His admission of guilt, the remorse he has shown following the incident and his previous almost exemplary good disciplinary record over the past five years will all be taken into account by the Commission that considers the case."
Gray was a used substitute over the Bank Holiday weekend fixtures and Stones boss Gordon Bartlett was delighted with his regular skip-per's attitude after falling out of contention for a first team place.
"James made a big difference when he came on at Dartford and was the reason we won against Sutton," he said. "Their defender, Jason Goodliffe, is a very experienced player but I think he met his match when James came on as he has such a powerful presence, especially in the air and his desire to win the ball is second to none."
