MIDDLESEX COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
Hornsey CC 179 all out
Stanmore CC 180-7
Stanmore won by three wickets
SKIPPER Marc Reingold took a hat full of wickets in a sensational performance as Stanmore beat Hornsey in their Division One match at the weekend.
The man-of-the-match took 6-61 as he tore the opposition’s batting order to shreds and also added a handy 15 runs to see out the victory for the Harrow side.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Stanmore easily took the first four Hornsey wickets for only 24 runs, in which Reingold managed to take three.
Michael van der Ende also helped by taking 1-0.
However, the opposition soon started to gather some momentum, with Michael Philipson scoring 76 until Reingold took his wicket, courtesy of a catch from van Der Ende.
Richard Wharton also scored 45 not out to see Hornsey finish with a respectable total of 179.
In reply, Stanmore started badly and were soon 25-2 as Umesh Valjee and Navin Samarakoon fell early on.
Things then started to look much better for the Harrow outfit as Tom Cullen and Tim Percival’s partnership put a very strong 68 runs onto the third wicket.
But then it seemed that Stanmore were intent on pushing the self destruct button, as 93-2 quickly became 93-4 as a result of the ruthlessness of the opposition bowlers.
William Hanson (16), Chanmeet Kohli (28) and Bhavesh Tapuriya (24) led the Harrow side’s charge to victory however, presenting a tough challenge to the Hornsey bowlers.
But it was Reingold and Van der Ende (3) that scored the winning runs as Stanmore kept their nerve to take home maximum points.
Meanwhile, Stanmore’s second-string fared less better as they suffered a 43-run defeat at Ealing.
The thirds were forced to settle for a losing draw against Finchley and the fourths won by 128 runs away at North Middlesex.
