MIDDLESEX COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE – 1ST XI DIVISION THREE
Barnes 176 all out
Kenton won by 51 runs
KENTON remain in the hunt for promotion after recording a 51-run win over Barnes on Saturday.
The nervy victory leaves Kenton 22 points adrift of Harrow St Mary’s who occupy second spot in the Middlesex County Cricket League Division Three.
Barnes won the toss and put Kenton in to bat first, with captain Schopun Jooma taking matters into his own hands this week by opening the batting for the hosts.
However, Jooma lasted barely seven overs and Kenton failed to get going until the arrival of Sohail Butt at the crease.
Butt struck 53 from 48 balls and formed a solid partnership with Sachin Patel (47) before being caught behind. Deepak Singh was run out moments later after hitting two boundaries.
Rishi Kotecha (32) joined Patel to rebuild the innings as Kenton eventually declared in the 49th over, having knocked up a respectable 227-8.
Barnes started confidently in reply and despite new recruit Yatheesan Selvakumar bowling a great opening spell, it took David Sweeney to get the first break through.
The visitors were chasing a winning draw but Chetan Vala had other ideas as he took five wickets to wrap up the win and earn Kenton 10 valuable points in their quest for a top-two finish.
