MIDDLESEX CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO
Pinner CC 189-9
West Harrow CC 153 all out
Pinner won by 36 runs
PINNER came away with a nail-biting 36-run home victory over West Harrow at the weekend.
The hosts lost the toss and were put into bat first but runs proved hard to come by as they chalked up a score of 70-2 off 32 overs.
Three quick wickets left Pinner at 107-5 and looking unlikely to find top gear until Peter Vittachi batted superbly to hold the innings together as he notched 91.
And with some later order hitting from Inder Gahunia (22) and Sachin Hedge (13), Pinner had put a competitive score on the board in tricky conditions.
The target of 190 was a big ask for West Harrow who instead set their sights on 155 for the winning draw and four points.
Thanks to a fine 47 from wicketkeeper/batsman Amit Shah, West Harrow looked on course to take the points.
At the start of the final over they needed just six runs and Geet Patel square cut the first ball for four to give the visitors real hope.
But with four balls remaining he played back, trying to work the ball to leg, and was trapped lbw to hand victory to Pinner.
On Sunday, Pinner travelled to Knotty Green and enjoyed a more convincing victory following a sensational showing with the bat.
After an early scare, a superb partnership of 170 between Geet Banerjee (74) and Danish Ayub (103 not out) meant Pinner were able to be up a huge total of 260-5 off 40 overs.
Knotty Green were never in the hunt as they went from 48-3 off 20 overs to 89 all out, with Rob Rayment taking 7-20.
Elsewhere, West Harrow seconds turned in another disappointing performance as they continued their losing streak at home to Birkbeck College.
Birkbeck batted first and scored 190 in their 50 overs, but West Harrow faltered in their response with only 16-year-old Vandan Thakker, who scored 28, making a notable contribution.
And West Harrow thirds suffered a three-wicket defeat against Edmonton, with 14-year-old Dhillon Patel making progress in his second appearance for the side.
