Bessborough succumb to second defeat of year

A WEAKENED Bessborough side succumbed to their second league defeat of the season at Highgate.

Captain Sherrick Chavda had no hesitation in putting Highgate into bat and the first 10 overs saw some tidy bowling from Eranda Jaysinghe and Jay Chavda.

Highgate resorted to keeping wickets in hand and taking advantage of a good batting pitch with a quick outfield.

Both Highgate's openers scored 50s before Gary Linton and Paras Patel picked up a wicket each.

Some good late order hitting from Highgate took them to 238 for five when they declared on 50 overs.

Bessborough's opening partner-ship of Phil Bush and Sherrick Chavda started very well with Bush particularly looking in good touch, as he peppered the offside with some powerful drives.

Chavda was looking good before he was harshly adjudged LBW when looking well set on 18.

Bush continued to drive and cut and brought up his second 50 of the season which was vital to Bessborough's chances of winning.

Bush went soon after and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and only Gary Linton with a battling 50 kept Bessborough in the game.

However, he was last man out with Bessborough 39 runs short.
