Harrow out for revenge at Hendon

HARROW Borough will be out to avenge their 3-0 Boxing Day defeat to Hendon when they face the Greens at Vale Farm on Saturday.

Goals from James Parker, Casey Maclaren and James Bent sealed a flattering victory for Gary McCann's strugglers with goalkeeper James Reading in talismanic form to deny Borough including a first half penalty save from Rocky Baptiste.

"The scoreline flattered us," admitted McCann. "The goals did come against the run of play. But the way things have gone in recent times, I don’t care about being lucky. We desperately needed the three points.

"We were very edgy for the first 25 to 35 minutes, but for the last 55-odd minutes we were more than in the match. I thought our defence was much better."

Borough boss Howell added: "Their keeper has made four or five very good saves. To say the scoreline flattered them is an understatement."

Harrow skipper Wayne Walters, a veteran of more than 400 games for Borough, has still to taste Boxing Day victory for the men from Earlsmead – he was still a schoolboy when they last achieved the feat in 1989.

He said: "A win would have propelled us right into the mix, but each time we reach that point we don’t seem to clear the next hurdle.

Maybe we need to reach that stage at a different time of year rather than the Boxing Day period. Maybe we eat too much Christmas dinner I don’t know, but we never seem to do well on Boxing Day or over the Christmas period."
