MCFL SENIOR OPEN CUP ROUND THREE
Cricklewood Wanderers 3
LPOSSA suffered their first defeat of the season to see them crash out of the MCFL Senior Open Cup at the weekend.
The Mailmen were beaten 3-2 after extra time by a strong Cricklewood Wanderers XI, in the third round of the competition.
A debatable offside opener for Wanderers gave them the early advantage and set the tone for what was to be a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.
It could have been worse when Cricklewood were awarded a penalty after Shane McCormick’s challenge in the box, which could easily have earned him a second booking.
McCormick escaped further punishment and he had goalkeeper Jamie Cooper to thank when the LPOSSA stopper kept out the spot kick to keep the lead at one goal.
LPOSSA found their feet towards the end of the half, Jon Karamath hitting the post before Curtis Tunstall rounded the keeper to put his side back on level terms.
It was a welcome boost before half time and the Mailmen maintained their momentum into the second period, Noel Reid putting them ahead 20 seconds after the restart.
McCormick then conceded another penalty, this time for handball, and yet again dodged the bullet to stay on the pitch.
Cricklewood converted successfully this time.
The match headed into extra time and with neither side threatening it looked like a shootout was on the cards until the hosts found a late winner to break LPOSSA hearts.
