Dulwich Hamlet 1-0 Wealdstone
WEALDSTONE crashed out of the League Cup on Tuesday night as they were beaten away at Dulwich Hamlet.
Dulwich secured their place in the next round after a solitary strike from full-back Ryan James proved enough to defeat the visitors 1-0.
Stones' makeshift back-line immediately came under pressure as an opposition free kick flew just wide of the upright in the opening five minutes, before James fired into the side netting.
The away side were constantly finding themselves pushed back in what was becoming a one-sided first-half, with only the woodwork and some wasteful finishing from Dulwich ensuring the sides went in level at half-time.
Four minutes after the restart the home side got the goal their play had deserved when a goal-bound header was well saved by keeper Rikki Banks (pictured) but the ball fell to James who slammed it home.
Stones started to see a bit more of the ball following the goal and Peter Dean picked out Richard Jolly in the box on 58 minutes, with last season’s top scorer heading just over the bar from 12 yards.
Despite the visitors now having greater possession, they still had to be alert to the counter attacks of the home side, with further efforts from Dulwich well saved by Banks.
Stones began to press Dulwich back in the final 10 minutes as they desperately tried to save the tie, however they were unable to make the breakthrough against a determined Dulwich side who defended well.
