FRANKIE Merrifield and Emmanuel Akokhia have already made a big impression at Harrow Borough, according to assistant manager Jason Goodliffe.
The talented duo arrived at Earlsmead on an initial month-long loan and both went straight into the starting line-up for Boro’s stalemate at Whitehawk on Saturday.
A point against the league-leaders was a fantastic result for Harrow and Goodliffe has been pleased by the attitude shown by the young Dons pair from the outset.
“They worked extremely hard on Saturday and I think that was the most pleasing thing for us,” he said. “Both lads have come straight into a place like Whitehawk, which is not the nicest of places, and have adapted very well.
“Sometimes it can be a bit of a culture shock when you’ve come from a professional environment to playing on different surfaces and stadia. They have immediately adapted to how we are at Harrow and how we want to play, which is a little bit different to how they were playing at Wimbledon, and put into practice what we want them to do.”
Midfielder Merrifield (pictured) has already made five appearances for Wimbledon’s first-team this season while forward Akokhia has played several development games for the club.
Goodliffe, who led the Dons to successive promotions as a player, believes the young guns will reap the rewards of first-team football at Ryman Premier level.
“Frankie has been in and around the first-team and played a part in some games,” he said. “It will be good for him to get a regular run of games, that will help with his development, and the same goes for Emmanuel. He has scored goals when he has played for the reserve side but now has to see if he can do it in a more competitive environment with us.
“Emmanuel is athletic, pacy, has good feet and wants to score goals. He is a goalscorer certainly but we hope that having been in full-time training he will have a little more to his game and he can bring other people into play. The two lads have got a good pedigree and are two youngsters looking to improve and progress in the game.”
Merrifield and Akokhia are likely to feature again this weekend as Harrow take on East Thurrock, with Dave Anderson picking from an injury-free Boro squad.
