Ashford win 5-4 on penalties
WEALDSTONE were lefting ruing a host of missed opportunities at they crashed out of the County Cup last night.
Stones saw Shabazz Baidoo, Romone Rose and Lee Chappell all come close but their misses proved costly as the hosts went on to go out on penalties.
The visitors started the brighter of the two teams and Kofi Lockhart-Adams should have done better with his header which crashed against the post.
Wealdstone continued to dominate and looked to have broken the deadlock when former QPR youngsters Baidoo (pictured) and Rose linked up well, but the latter fired over from close range.
Despite the constant pressure the Stones couldn't find a way through the impressive Merson in the Ashford goal.
With the sides unable to be separated during 90 minutes, the game went to extra time.
Chappell looked to have given his side the lead when he broke into the Ashford penalty area inside the opening five minutes but his curling effort went just wide of the post.
Tom Pett and Peter Dean both went close for Wealdstone late on but were unable to snatch a winner and the game headed to penalties.
With the hosts behind 5-4 in the shootout Esmond James saw his decisive spot kick saved to send Ashford Town through to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Harrow Borough also bowed out of the competition last night as they went down 1-0 at Tony Choules' Uxbridge.
