RICHARD Hounslow is through to the semi-finals of the canoe doubles (C2) event at London 2012.
Harrow-born Hounslow and his doubles partner David Florence picked up three penalties in their first run but were much smoother in their second to book their place in Thursday’s semis.
The three penalties added six seconds to their opening gambit, however the duo kept their cool and successfully navigated all 22 gates this afternoon to finish with a time of 108.23 seconds.
Expectations will be high for the pair as Florence is currently ranked world number one and is looking to add to the silver medal he won in Beijing in 2008.
The duo teamed up to win C2 gold at the Canoe Slalom World Cup in Cardiff in June. A month earlier they had been crowned European champions in Augsburg, Germany.
Hounslow is also competing in the kayak singles (K1) event and is through to Wednesday’s semi-finals in that competition as his Olympic Games continues later this week.
