KUNG Hey Fat Choy!
Children at Newton Farm Nursery, Infant and Junior School in Ravenswood Crescent, South Harrow, celebrated Chinese New Year with a series of creative activities exhibited during a themed assembly.
Pupils in year one made paper lanterns and children in year two created their own traditional red money envelopes, while year four created Chinese paper fish and year six wrote messages with good wishes for the New Year in Chinese on scrolls.
The youngsters were told how each year in the 12-year Chinese cycle was named after an animal – with 2013 being the Year of the Snake – and the celebrations ended with a dragon dance performed by the reception class.
Headteacher Rekha Bhakoo said: “The event was a wonderful occasion in which all pupils could contribute and celebrate the coming of the New Year and to value the diverse world we live in.”
