FOOD served via Meals on Wheels, to day care centre visitors and to staff at Harrow Civic Centre contains no adulterated beef, Harrow Council confirmed.
Catering firm Apetito provides the ingredients for the council staff to make the Meals on Wheels and day care centre dishes, and food wholesaler 3663 supplies the workers' canteen at the council's headquarters in Station Road, Harrow , while a separate firm, Harrisons Catering, supply meals to the borough's secondary schools under contract.
A Harrow Council spokeswoman said: “The safety and wellbeing of residents in Harrow is of paramount importance to the council and it particularly takes food standards extremely seriously.
"Our suppliers for meals on wheels, day centres and staff catering have confirmed that they are already testing to Food Standards Agency (FSA) guidelines and assure us that no products that we purchase are affected.
"It is the responsibility of our schools to appoint and manage catering companies. This is done through a competitive tendering process, independently of the council.
"We have written to all schools to remind them of their responsibility to ensure they maintain the highest standards of food safety and suggested that they seek re-assurances from their caterers at this particular time.”
