LABOUR Party members in Brent are arranging two days of action against an MP’s opposition to gay marriage.
Brent Labour Party are holding two rallies on Saturday and Sunday outside Willesden Green Tube station in protest against Brent Central MP Sarah Teather, who voted against the same sex marriage bill last week.
Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt wrote an open letter to the Lib Dem MP, saying: “Even beyond voting for her government’s cuts agenda, this is a fundamental betrayal of the people of Brent and we want to make sure she knows how angry our community is about being let down and misrepresented in this way.”
Brent Labour Party will deliver a petition to Sarah Teather, whose office is on the same road as the station, calling on her to apologise to Brent Central’s estimated 16,000 strong LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community.
Mr Butt said: “We are also united in our fight for LGBT rights and share a fundamental belief in equality for everyone in our borough, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religion, background or birth.”
