A YOUNG boy has extra reason for celebration on his birthday this year.
Kushal Pithia had his 12th birthday yesterday (Wednesday) , meaning he turned 12 on 12/12/12 – a milestone his family had been looking forward to for a long time.
The student at Avanti House School, Harrow, was born in nearby Northwick Park Hospital and his mother Bharti said they were planning a big celebration with all the family.
Mrs Pithia, of Westfield Drive, Harrow, said before the celebrations on Wednesday evening: “We are all very excited, I think us more than him. We knew this day would happen and are very excited about it.
“We have invited friends and family over and we are having more celebrations at the weekend. His sister is giving him a special silver cup which we are going to get engraved and I have bought him a watch.”
The family, including Kushal’s father Hitesh, sisters Priyanka, 20, and Dhrutika, 15, and brother Rajan, 14, were looking forward to celebrating the once in a lifetime birthday.
The birthday boy, a Sagittarius star sign, said: “I don’t know what any of the plans are yet, it’s all a surprise. Normally I just get a present and we don’t have a party so I am hoping we will this year. It is a special year.
“I think my mum is overly excited about my birthday this year though.”
The number 12 has significance in most major religions and especially at this time of year as there are 12 days of Christmas.
Both Judaism and Christianity recognise the importance of the number as in the Old Testament Jacob has 12 sons, who were the progenitors of the Twelve Tribes of Israel and in the New Testament Jesus has 12 apostles.
