SPEEDY cyclists used their muscle power in a 1,300-mile ride to Santa’s homeland – without leaving Harrow.
Fundraisers pedalled exercise bikes the equivalent of the distance to Lapland at Tesco in Station Road, Harrow.
The static cycle, on bikes provided by Greenwich Leisure, Harrow borough’s leisure partner, was to encourage people to get active and raise money for charity.
Labour councillor David Perry, the council’s portfolio holder for community and culture, joined in with the attempt. Together they cycled the 1,300 miles, from Friday last week to Sunday, raising £1,000 for Cancer Research.
Mr Perry said: “I got on the bike on Friday morning and helped to start it off. I did a few kilometres, but there were a lot of staff and customers who all wanted a go.
“One boy got on and went really fast, and he was sweating when he got off.
“Anything which encourages people to get active in Harrow is a good thing.”
