CHILDREN and teachers celebrated a school’s 20-year anniversary with two weeks of activities.
Whitchurch First School and Nursery, in Wemborough Road, Stanmore, celebrated the milestone on Wednesday last week with an assembly for all 326 children about the history of the school, followed by celebrations with their families.
Teachers also held activities over a fortnight called Pride in the Badge, to encourage children to show pride and commitment to their school.
Since it opened in 1992, it has had two headteachers, four deputy headteachers and has taught more than 7,500 children. Teaching assistant Lynda Fidmont has been at the school for 20 years.
Current headteacher Anne Winstrom, who has been at the school for 15 years, led the assembly and Stanmore Park ward councillor Camilla Bath, who is chairman of the governing body, took part in the celebrations.
The celebrations continued into the afternoon with the families of the children.
Mementos from the event will be put into a time capsule to be opened at the next milestone anniversary.
