A HINDU temple proved extremely popular as devotees and other guests attended Diwali celebrations.
Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Wood Lane, Stanmore, said more than 3,000 visitors turned up to watch a fireworks display on Tuesday last week and the following day, the Hindu New Year, saw in excess of 10,000 worshippers and other guests visit as part of the five-day long Festivals of Lights.
Vikesh Wagjiani, the temple’s public relations representative, said: “It went very well. The number of people at the fireworks was amazing and we had to close our gates, that’s how busy it was. It was a glorious and joyous day for everyone.”
Children from Woodlands School, a special school in Bransgrove Road, Edgware, from Rexton House Nursery School in Aldenham, Hertfordshire, and from the London Academy in Edgware, were invited to take part in the Maha Aarti and Maha Prasadam (sanctified food) ceremonies.
