AN OLYMPIC gold medallist is getting a campaign off to a flying start to make Brent fitter and healthier.
Linford Christie OBE is backing the drive by Brent Council and NHS Brent to make residents fitter, happier and healthier.
Mr Christie, who won gold in the 100m sprint at the Barcelona Games, was among the 100 guests, including council and NHS staff and representatives from a range of community groups, at a health and wellbeing event on Friday, November 2.
Mr Christie, who took part in a question and answer session, said: “As a former Olympian, I believe health and fitness are really important, so I was delighted to be asked to speak at this event. I hope it will help improve the health and fitness of local people in Brent.”
Brent Council Labour leader councillor Muhammed Butt and the director of public health and regeneration, NHS Brent, Simon Bowen, gave talks about the issue at the event at the Hilton London, Wembley.
