OCCUPANTS of flats above a North Harrow convenience store were evacuated when a fire broke out in the shop.
Twenty firefighters were called to 7 'Til Late, a shop on the ground floor of a three-storey building in the middle of a parade of shops in Pinner Road, at 11.40pm yesterday. The business had closed at 10pm.
White watch manager David Donaghey, whose green watch colleagues attended the incident, said: "I believe it was one of those drinks and food chiller cabinets that caught light although the cause is as yet unidentified and the fire investigators are looking into it.
"People were in the flats above and I believe the firefighters evacuated the flats temporarily.
"The crew were there for quite some time. The fire was brought under control in about 25 or 30 minutes but they spent time dampening it down and were there for about four hours in all."
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade confirmed most of the ground floor and part of the first floor was damaged by the flames and smoke.
