A CELEBRATION of the anniversary of Indian nationalist leader Gandhi’s birthday was attended by more than 100 people.
The event was held at Kadva Patidar Centre, Kenmore Avenue, Harrow, on Tuesday last week on the 143th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi – the activist who through civil disobedience led India to independence from Britain.
He became known as the Father Of The Nation in his homeland.
The birthday celebration was organised by the Gandhi Foundation and led by Harrow councillor, Manji Kara.
Remembering the politician’s life were Hindu priests, a representative of the Indian High Commissioner, the Mayors of Brent and Harrow, London Assembly member Navin Shah, Harrow East’s Conservative MP Bob Blackman, and Brent and Harrow councillors.
Councillor Husain Akhtar said: “I am pleased that this community event was well organised and well attended and provided good opportunity to focus on Gandhi’s work which in essence was to liberate man from man.”
