Ambitious Harrow student wins furniture award

AN AMBITIOUS student has won a furniture maker award while studying for a masters degree.

Liz Ret, of Parkside Way, North Harrow, was named joint winner of the first Young Furniture Maker of the Year award by the organisation, The Furniture Makers.

The award was given to students who contribute the most throughout the year to the organisation, whose headquarters is based at Furniture Maker’s Hall, in east London, and Liz had helped with its website and designed a chair which can store books, pens and computer cables.

The former Nower Hill High School pupil, Pinner, said: “I feel incredibly privileged to be associated with this title and my ambition is to have a leading role as a designer for a successful furniture company. This kind of accolade can only help me achieve this.”

The 24 year-old, a former sixth form student at Haydon School, Eastcote, is studying a masters degree in furniture design at Buckinghamshire New University, High Wycombe.

Liz received her award at a student presentation evening and shared the award with Lloyd Manning, a student at De Montfort University, in Leicester.

Liz’s university course leader, Lynn Jones, said: “Liz absolutely deserves this accolade for all of her hard work.”
