A FRAUDSTER has been jailed for eight years after he was found guilty of manslaughter after blowing up a kebab shop in an attempted insurance scam.
Shabaaz Khan of Stuart Road, Harrow blew up a the shop in Narborough Road, Leicester killing the 40-year-old chef who worked there.
The 25-year-old was convicted for manslaughter, arson and reckless to endanger life, he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment along with his accomplice, Mehwish Yasin, 25, Hodge Hill, Birmingham, it was heard at Leicester Crown Court.
The explosion happened on August 29 last year, the body of Fiaz Ahmed Ansari was discovered in the building during the site clearance following the blast, he had been the chef in the kebab shop since October 2010.
Neighbouring properties were also damaged.
The business was in financial turmoil and police believe the reason behind the explosion was an insurance scam.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Beattie, from Leicestershire Police, said: "This was a devastating incident, the death of Mr Ansari will not only affect his family but two other families will have to live with the consequences of the defendants’ actions.
"The actions of the defendants for whatever reason have resulted in the tragic loss of a life.
"We hope this conviction sends a clear message to those who believe they can commit crime and profit from it, this was an extremely dangerous act and one that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives."
