HAVE your say on ideas to turn Wembley into a buzzing, modern and lively town over the next 15 years.
Brent Council is seeking opinions on the Wembley Area Action Plan, which is part of a wider strategy for development in the borough and proposes new shopping centres, 11,500 homes – about half of them affordable – student accommodation and extra green spaces.
Councillor George Crane, the lead member for regeneration and major projects, said: “Building on the council’s vision to develop Wembley as a destination which will drive the economic regeneration of Brent, the plan includes key planning objectives and policies and provides guidance for the development of more than 30 sites in the Wembley area.
“Our aim is to provide new homes, jobs and shopping and leisure facilities, while ensuring that important infrastructure and services, such as transport improvements and new schools, are delivered to meet the needs of local people. I hope you will take this opportunity to participate in the process of drawing up the new plan. If we are to shape Wembley the way you want to see it then we need to hear from you.”
Outline plans include a new pedestrian pathway, called Wembley Boulevard, running from Wembley Park Station in Bridge Road, Wembley, to Wembley Stadium Station in Wembley Hill Road, Wembley, while High Road, Wembley, will get widened pedestrian access.
Three large hotels, a visitor attraction and 25 per cent more shopfloor space are expected and it is hoped the development will bring 10,000 jobs to the area by 2031.
The plan states Wembley will become “a new place, a new home and a new destination – modern, urban exciting and sustainable”.
The public are invited to a meeting and exhibition at Brent Town Hall in Forty Avenue, Wembley, beginning on Wednesday, September 12, at 7pm, or to attend a drop-in session at the Coming Soon Club in Wembley Hill Road from 11am to 7pm on Thursday, September 13.
