FOOTBALL stars dreaming of playing at Wembley are able to get one step closer with training sessions launched this summer.
Team GB star and England football player Rachel Yankey, from Brent, is supporting a girls-only scheme and two local scholarships open to everyone for Gibbon Wreckers Youth Football Club, at the Unity Centre in Church Road, Harlesden.
Ms Yankey, founder of the club, said: “While growing up in Brent I never went to any soccer schools. Our scheme provides a community for kids who are bored doing nothing during the summer holiday.”
There is also a week-long football scheme for girls, supported by female coaches, and Ms Yankey said the club wants to get more girls participating in football. The scheme started last week and will run until Friday, August 24.
