A RESTAURATEUR married in a romantic ceremony in the US which was planned in less than two weeks.
Observer columnist Terry Farr, 63, wed De at a service at the oldest church in Portland, Oregon, on the jubilee weekend – on June 2 – less than six months after the couple first met.
Mr Farr, chef patron of Friends Restaurant in High Street, Pinner, said: “We had planned to go on holiday to Portland as that’s where De’s best friend lived but only decided two weeks before we went that we would get married there. I didn’t tell anyone apart from my two sons.”
De, 55, is a management consultant who lives in Old Windsor, Berkshire, but the couple are planning a move to Pinner in the near future.
They met in January at a restaurant in Chiswick.
Mr Farr said: “She is a fan of my cooking. We have a lot in common but this was one of the things which helped us get together.”
Although the wedding was fairly spontaneous, the couple’s friends made sure it was a day to remember and had a British flavour.
Mr Farr added: “Our friends said they would pick us up from the house where we went after the service to take us to the reception.
“I thought they would be coming in the car but as I was getting ready I looked out the window and saw this huge launch coming down the river. It was all decked out in Union Jack bunting and there was a huge Union Jack at the back – it was fantastic.
“When we got to the venue there was a huge crowd all waving flags for us.”
The couple are planning a reception in the UK for close friends and family and are considering where to go on honeymoon.
