Tories hold on to Kenton seat after by election

Conservatives are celebrating after winning the Kenton seat on Brent Council in a by election yesterday.

Suresh Kansagra will take up the Kenton ward seat that was left vacant after Conservative councillor Arthur Steel died in January.

Suresh Kansagra has been lived in the heart of Kenton for more than 36 years. He studied chemistry at university before training as a solicitor.

He is married and both his children studied locally at Mount Stewart and Claremont High School.

He has already served as a councillor for more than 12 years. He has served as a director of The Kadwa Patidar Centre in Kenton for the past 20 years.

Mr Kansagra’s nomination was also supported by Councillor Steel’s widow, Alda Steel, who was the first person to sign his nomination paper.

The results of the election which were announced last night were:

Robert Dunwell, Independent, 185

Chunilal Hirani, Liberal Democrat - 179

Suresh Kansagra - Conservative - 1,063

Alan Mathison - Green - 75

Eleanor May Southwood - Labour - 907

There were nine spoiled votes.

Only 26 per cent of people turned out to vote yesterday (Feb 17) - 2,419 out of a total electorate of 9,319.
