Staff at Alperton Sainsbury's celebrate 140 years of the supermarket
STAFF and customers at an Alperton supermarket took a trip back in time to celebrate Sainsbury's 140th anniversary.
Brent's new mayor, Councillor Jim O'Sullivan, popped in to Sainsbury's, in Alperton, to grab a few essentials before cutting the store's birthday cake.
Champagne was served to customers over the weekend by members of staff dressed up in Victorian clothes.
Richard Meade, store manager, said: "It is incredible to think that a company like Sainsbury's has been around for 140 years.
"I can still remember visiting Sainsbury's as a young child and helping to do the week's shop.
"I am so pleased to be helping customers and colleagues celebrate and I am looking forward to some birthday cake."
