Harrow Councillor expelled by Conservatives

Councillor Eileen Kinnear

The chief whip at Harrow Council has confirmed back bencher Eileen Kinnear has been expelled by the Tories for 'a number of serious group breaches'.

Councillor Kinnear, who represents Harrow on the Hill ward, is the second Conservative to face the boot in the past six months - after Councillor Robert Benson's expulsion following his guilty plea in August to engaging in sexual activity in a public lavatory.

It is unclear at this stage why Kinnear has been ousted by the group but chief whip Councillor Paul Osborn said: "I can confirm that she has been expelled from the group because she has committed a series of serious breaches to the rules.

"She has 14 days to appeal the decision so at this stage we are making no futher comment until that period is over."

Kinnear has been a councillor in Harrow since her first election in May 1990.
