Stamp out overcrowding

MOST multi-occupied rented properties in the borough (those occupied by more than five unrelated people) are not licensed. Up to 15 people sometimes occupy a three-bedroom house.

This is unsafe and unhealthy for tenants. Because so many live in a small area, they become a nuisance to the neighbours.

They make a lot of noise, they keep coming and going inside the house 24 hours a day, they hang around in the front gardens, making noise and chatting loudly on their mobile phones.

They create a lot of rubbish - most bins overflowing with some rubbish on the floor.

All this is profitable for the landlords who avoid paying tax on the rent or any licence fee.

When is the council going to enforce this law?
