WE ARE relieved that the demonstration against Harrow Central Mosque went off without any incident.
The event was well managed by the police, the mosque committee, the council and other community organisations. We are very thankful for their services in maintaining law and order.
We in Harrow do not entertain any kind of disruptive elements to interfere in our peaceful, friendly and respectful co-existence with each other - regardless of the faith, race, colour, cast, creed, or any other orientation. We will not allow years of our mutual hard work to be wasted or sabotaged because of some demonstrations by a few extremist outsiders.
Harrow Muslim Council encourages, supports and will do everything in its power to inspire our young people to be more active and involved in the society we live in and share with our friends and neighbours in order to understand, respect and value others' culture, religion and the rule of law.
I believe that these demonstrations against the mosque will strengthen all of us against the few extremist outsiders who like to use provocative tactics to divide us, but the community as a whole is united. The intolerant, ignorant and provocative behaviour by any group is a threat to all peace-loving citizens of Harrow.
The best thing in Harrow is its multicultural nature, religious diversity and the way communities work together, and long may it continue. It is something that Harrow Muslim Council, as the key organisation in Harrow representing Muslims, is extremely proud of.
Thank you all for your support, co-operation and best wishes.
COUNCILLOR NIZAM ISMAIL President, Harrow Muslim Council
