IT IS hard to open a newspaper without reading about some kind of violent attack.
Only last week the Harrow Observer covered a story about the number of reported rapes in the borough. This level of violence is shocking and as a campaigner working to end violence against women in war zones, I was deeply saddened to read of this crime occurring so frequently in my own borough.
In war zones around the world, women and girls, who are no different from us in Harrow, live in fear of the torture and humiliation of this type of attack. In one small part of Congo, central Africa, 40 women are being raped every day.
Their plight is being highlighted by the charity CARE International. There is a massive drive across the globe to clamp down on violence like this. I would like to urge readers to find out more and add their voice by visiting www.careinternational.org. uk/campaigns.
