I AM angry and extremely upset by reports that I read in the press that the Freedom Pass may not be free for much longer as Whitehall is reviewing the subsidy it agreed to pay to London councils to fund the scheme.
The Freedom Pass enables us pensioners to get around to visit relatives, enjoy outings and do our shopping, plus it also helps us to get to medical and hospital appointments.
Furthermore, the pass gives us independence and helps us remain in touch with friends. Loneliness is a major social factor among pensioners in London.
What politicians must not forget is that by getting around we spend money, thus helping the economy.
Next year we will be voting in the local and national polls. It will be the time to ask the politicians their views about this sensitive issue.
