SARAH Teather, the Liberal Democrat MP, beat Labour rival Dawn Butler by 1,300 votes to claim the new seat of Brent Central.
And Barry Gardiner was re-elected Labour MP for Brent North and, in fact, extended his lead.
Both results came mid-morning today after a long and exhausting night of ballot paper verifying and counting at Brent Town Hall.
Ms Teather, formerly MP for Brent East, earned 20,026 votes against ex-MP for Brent South Ms Butler's 18,681 in a closely-fought fight.
Mr Gardiner, meanwhile, polled 24,514 votes in Brent North against Tory candidate Harshadbhai Patel's 16,486, and in doing so increased his majority from the 2005 General Election to 8,028.
Liberal Democrat James Allie came third in Brent North with 8,879.
