Dec 21 2010 Harrow Observer
WE WOULD like to thank everyone who was able to donate a gift for our 2010 Christmas Toy Appeal.
The Observer has been running the appeal for many years now and it never ceases to amaze us, not only how generous our readers are, but how such a seemingly small gesture can make such a big difference to a family's Christmas.
We were delighted that Katie Waissel agreed to take part in the appeal and hand out just a few of the 100-plus toys received.
Katie embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and we are grateful for her taking time out of her busy schedule to return on Thursday to the hospital where she was born, despite having a gig in Middlesbrough the same evening.
Spending part or all of your Christmas away from home when you are a child, when your friends are out playing in the snow and opening presents at home with their family, can be an upsetting time.
But it is also difficult for the parents, who often show great commitment by staying and sleeping in the same room as their child while they are being cared for, whether recovering from an operation or receiving treatment for chronic illness.
All of the toys we received will be given to unwell or vulnerable children who are facing a difficult festive season.
Thank you again for making a difference, and a merry Christmas to all of you.
