HOW would miserly Ebenezer Scrooge feel about this ghastly global economic downturn? Well, thanks to a tantalisingly topical and original update of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol by The Hill Players, we can now find out.
In only it third outing, the Hill-based amateur dramatics society is performing its modern take on a festive feel-good favourite at Harrow School's Ryan Theatre.
The 50-minute play, called A Credit Crunch Christmas Carol, was written by group member Sonny Peart and is described as a 'funny, family friendly show'.
Society chairwoman Maggie Richards said: "Not everyone is feeling the squeeze this Christmas.
"Retired banker Sir Fred Scrooge enjoys a life of luxury in his Caribbean condo, counting his pension, feasting on chocolates and persecuting his overworked personal assistant Roberta Cratchet.
"All is well in Scrooge's world until the arrival on Christmas Eve of the ghost of Bob Marley and a promise of more ghosts to come.
"Will Scrooge learn the lesson of Christmas? Will Roberta fulfil her dream to sing? Or will everyone choke on the last humbug in the jar?"
